Not Legalization, But Decriminalization

Hawaii Marijuana Decriminalization is Happening. While many in Hawaii have been keenly watching if we'll see legalized recreational adult use marijuana be approved it's all but certain that the legislature has passed on legalization in 2019. While that's not the news most of us wanted to hear, there is still some good news coming out of our elected leaders in Honolulu. What am I talking about? The next best thing to legalization is decriminalization. Did you know that over 1,000 people are arrested each year in Hawaii for possessing marijuana? That's right, that's several people each day and thousands of dollars in wasted public resources. Our politicians have taken note and are pushing forward to decriminalize, and destigmatize, those in Hawaii that are using marijuana non-medically. The bill being debated in various committees also has a component that will provide those with past marijuana convictions to expunge their records. We at CertiCann applaud our legislators for pushing this bill forward and we hope that Governor Ige will sign it later this year.
